Letter from the Founder: Reflections on Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Dear Supporters, Friends, and Advocates,

As we close October and the 2024 Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and inspired by the strength of our community. This month has been filled with impactful events, meaningful conversations, and powerful connections, each bringing us closer to a world free from domestic abuse.

We kicked off October with our Kendra Gives Back event, held from October 5th to 6th. The event was a tremendous success, and we are incredibly thankful to Kendra Scott, their staff, and all customers who participated and supported our mission. Your support fuels our efforts, allowing us to bring resources and education to those in need. It was heartwarming to witness such generosity, which shows just how much our community cares.

Later in the month, the M. Ariel Love Foundation had the honor of joining the Beauty Under One Roof (BUOR) Live 24 panel discussion. Sharing the stage with esteemed advocates like Dr. Conte Terrell, Thecia Jenkins, and human trafficking advocate Nissi Hamilton was truly impactful. Our discussions underscored the essential role the beauty industry plays in supporting victims of domestic violence. Many times, salons and beauty spaces become safe havens for those enduring abuse. By equipping these frontline workers with the right knowledge and resources, we empower them to support and guide individuals toward safety. The discussions were deep, questions insightful, and the commitment to change palpable.

Our 3rd Annual Domestic Violence & Me workshop on October 12th brought a focus on Sexual Abuse—what it is, how to recognize it, and how we can address it. With speakers like Tish Dolby and Amber Brown, along with a courageous sexual abuse survivor, we delved into the often hidden realities of abuse. Each speaker brought a wealth of experience and compassion to the event, offering guidance to those in attendance. This workshop was an eye-opening and healing experience for many, reinforcing the importance of community education and support.

On October 18th, we attended the 27th Annual Legacy Awards hosted by Fresh Spirit Wellness for Women, led by none other than Dr. Conte Terrell. It was a beautiful evening of love, recognition, and solidarity for those fighting against domestic abuse. We were honored to be included in this meaningful event and are deeply grateful to Dr. Conte for the invitation. Witnessing the acknowledgment of those making strides in our field was a powerful reminder that we are not alone in this fight.

To conclude the month, we proudly supported All Is Well Family at their Annual “Houston Against Bullying” Parade and Rally. Reaching into the community, especially to our youth, was a vital opportunity to share what we do and why it matters. Alongside educational materials, we provided affirmational sunglasses for young attendees, allowing each to select and wear phrases that resonated with them. Empowering our youth with messages of self-love and respect, we planted seeds that will help them recognize and avoid toxic influences. The energy and turnout were incredible, affirming that our community cares deeply about fostering a safe, loving environments for all.

As we reflect on October, I want to remind each of you that our work doesn’t end here. Domestic violence is a daily reality for too many, and awareness must be constant. I hope each of you continues to educate yourselves and those around you. Stay vigilant, love yourselves fiercely, and remember when we prioritize self-love, we build a foundation that repels disrespect and toxic behaviors.

Thank you for standing with us. Your support is what makes our work possible.

With gratitude and purpose,

Quin Levy
